While overjoyed she could now experience swimming even better than before, Emma was greatly saddened she had to give up any form of public swimming; forcing her to restrain it to the ocean. She turns back into a human several minutes after climbing out of the the water and once her body is completely dry, she turns back into a human along with the clothes she was wearing before she transformed. As a mermaid, Emma has the ability to swim at a super speed , and dive at depths no human being is capable of, completely protected from its cold and water pressure.

She is also capable of holding her breath for at least fifteen minutes. It is hinted in Moon Spell That Emma May have a Degree of Enhanced Strength, Seen when she was down in the water, she was able to throw Lewis over her shoulder with little to no difficulty.

It is however possible its only while she was under the effects of the full moon, as she never showed this type of strength again.
