Chrono trigger who is the prophet

Schala then frees them and tells them to flee the palace and save the Guru of Life, as he was sent to the Mountain of Woe for opposing Queen Zeal's plans. However, the Prophet then enters the room, saying that he needs to put an end to them. Schala asks him not to do anything to them, so he concedes but tells Schala that she must cooperate with him. He then asks the party how they arrived in the Antiquity.

They show the Prophet and Schala the Gate they came through. The Prophet throws them in the Gate and forces Schala to place a barrier on it. There, they see their mother's ultimate plan come to fruition. When the Mammon Machine was activated, it began absorbing too much power. Queen Zeal and Schala along with the three Gurus were the only ones at the Mammon Machine's activation. The Gurus warned about of a dimensional vortex, a power humans cannot control, and they would be dragged into a rift in time, yet the Queen persisted in activating the machine.

Soon, Janus entered the room for Schala. Suddenly, the six were transported in front of Lavos. Gates then appeared and transported Belthasar , Gaspar , Melchior , and Janus to different times. He and his Mystics would have slain him had Janus not defended himself with magic, which human beings should not be able to use.

Seeing the boy's potential as being a greater wizard than himself, Ozzie took him in and raised him, grooming him to become the Fiendlord and the leader of the Mystics' army. It was during this time that he took the name "Magus," referring to his status as a powerful magic user. During this time, he grew vindictive and vengeful against Lavos and was eternally concerned over the fate of his sister Schala.

His reasons for starting his war against Guardia are left out in the English version, in the Japanese version he said he was trying to gain power to have a better chance at defeating Lavos. Seeing his strong magics and strange appearance, most people took him to be a Mystic, himself. At the height of the war, he faced Sir Cyrus and his squire, Glenn. Cyrus wielded the Masamune , the only weapon capable enough of breaking through Magus' magical barrier. Even with this, he was no match for Magus' powerful magic.

He died in combat and the Masamune was broken. Glenn tried to avenge his friend, but was struck by one of Magus' spells and transformed into an anthropomorphic Frog. He was attempting to summon Lavos during the war, and while the Mystics believed it was to help them win the war, Magus' real intentions were to summon Lavos so he could take his revenge on it.

Eventually, after Frog gains the Masamune, the heroes whom believed that Magus created Lavos because Lavos was said to have appeared in the Middle Ages go to confront Magus in his castle. After fighting through his minions, he is fought and defeated. After hearing that he was believed to be trying to create Lavos, Magus informs the heroes that he was only trying to summon him. Lavos begins to wake up, and Magus tries to use his magic to send him back to sleep.

Even he was not strong enough to kill Lavos when he awoke. The space-time distortion generated by Lavos' premature awakening created a massive and unstable Gate , which sucked everyone and the Keep in, scattering them through time. While the heroes were sent to Prehistory , Magus was sent back to his own time.

During this time, because of his knowledge of the future, Magus was able to convince his mother Queen Zeal that he was a powerful oracle, and called himself the Prophet.

When he appears on screen at this point, he is wearing a dark blue cloak that mostly conceals his appearance, but if one looks close enough they can see Magus' boot and hair showing.

His aim during this period was to bide his time until the point where Lavos appeared and kill it. He sets himself up in Zeal as a councilor to the queen, waiting for Crono and the others to arrive from the future.

He went through everything he saw as a child, going through the motions until the battle at the Ocean Palace would give him another opportunity to destroy Lavos. When the heroes appear, Magus, out of spite for them, convinces Zeal that they are threats that have to be eliminated, leading to a battle with Dalton 's Boss Golem.

Whether the Golem wins or loses, the heroes are captured. Schala, however, is able to convince him to spare them, leading to them being sent through the time gate they entered in, after which Schala seals the gate shut. The heroes later return using the Epoch and enter the Ocean Palace where Zeal is trying to harness Lavos power with the Mammon Machine. Magus was also there, knowing that Lavos would appear. After Lavos breaks into the Ocean Palace, Magus throws off his disguise and tries to fight it, but is quickly overwhelmed.

Somehow, he survives. After Crono is killed by Lavos, Schala opens a portal that allows everyone to escape. He is not seen again until the Elder states to meet him in North Cape.

Here, he reveals he is Janus via flashbacks. He then mocks Crono's team for being defeated by Lavos. You can then decide whether to fight Magus, or not.

If you decide to spare him, he joins the party, but in either case, he mentions that Gaspar could help you revive Crono. Magus merely inserts his two cents for the remainder of the game with a few exceptions. In the scenario where Ozzie attempts to rule the Mystics on his own and continue the extermination of humans, Magus informs him that he was merely a tool used to his benefit.

This angers Ozzie, and causes him to denounce his former boss. When Ozzie is finally defeated, he states that the past " is merely a dream ". If you confront Queen Zeal with Magus on the team, he will insult her and insist on putting an end to her, the music will then change to his own battle theme for the entire fight. During the DS remake , if the party faces the Dream Devourer and Magus is present, he will react with shock upon seeing himself from the future it is unstated whether it's the party's future, or an alternate one.

The Future Magus returned to free Schala from Lavos after discovering he was revived by absorbing Schala. The other Magus goes ahead to face the Dream Devourer and is defeated.

After the party "defeats" the Dream Devourer, Schala is able to send them to safety. After a brief conversation with the other Magus, Schala says that Magus cannot save her as he is now. Frustrated by this, Magus destroys his memories and wakes up in the woods. He only remembers that he forgot something important and says he will find whatever it was.

There's a giant spoiler tag in the thread title. If you didn't see it, it's your fault, not TC's. Keep in mind that this doesn't happen after all of the events in CT.

CC takes place in ad, which is well before , and well before , where Belthasar arrived, lived in solitude, and went insane and died trying to survive.

He would have ended up in a world in which he could flourish. Presumably the new ad was full of advanced technology, and he probably had an easy time surviving and had many colleagues to work with. He would not have met as untimely a death in the new as he would have in the old There's no reason to assume that what happened in the old ad would happen in the new More topics from this board How do I save Marbule?

To start things off, we'll join Chrono'99 , Guru of Reason of the Chrono Compendium and the driving force behind programming, directing, and completing the game. I always wanted to create a fangame of sorts, but I never managed to write a decent story on my own due to a lack of imagination, or at least self-confidence That's why I joined the Crimson Echoes project, since it already had a large plot draft to work with.

It described all the events of the game in details from the beginning to the end. I had never written a complete plot outline, and there was a really nice one right here at disposal, so I jumped on the opportunity to code it. I coded the events, mainly. I also did some maps, a bit of graphic hacking, and altered the monster stats.

Magus was supposed to wear his Prophet hood during the whole game. From the start we decided that he would remove it during battles, since otherwise this would have required too much graphic hacking. Various tricks were considered to have the player control the Prophet sprite outside of battles, but all possibilities required at least a bit of sprite assembly hacking. We eventually decided that it wasn't really worth the effort, given the short nature of the game and its "quick development" philosophy.

In the final version, Magus wears his hood only during some cutscenes. The other difficulties were very minor because the project was well-planned from the start and we had a clear idea of what we could and couldn't do with the CT engine.

The plot is huge and blends the creative styles of many different people. The game intends to fill the gap between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, but one of its main purpose is to further develop the overarching themes of the series rather than simply involving the old party in a new adventure. I don't want to give away anything precise since it would spoil the surprises, but I can say we're expanding the Chrono themes of "hope" and "dreams" with the notions of "reconciling differences" and "personal attachment".

Finally, while Prophet's Guile isn't meant to be a direct prequel to Crimson Echoes, it does allude to an event in the past which will have huge repercussions in the latter game. I just hope Prophet's Guile will lead more people to try their hand at hacking Chrono Trigger. Before the release of Temporal Flux, I had never actually hacked anything. Temporal Flux makes things really easy once you've familiarized yourself with the program, but I have the feeling that many people don't realize this because there's a lack of documentation.

I encourage people to open Prophet's Guile in TF to see how events were coded, and to ask questions in the forums if they want to start using TF. Next up is ZeaLitY , who wrote the plot and dialogue, and created the project in January with the intent of releasing it soon after though problems and real life difficulty hijacked that plan.

Temporal Flux was released in , and since then, we've had a couple demos and one Colosseum. Even if it'd only be two chapters long, I wanted to release a new story of some kind after a quick development phase to stir interest in hacking and also get fans interested again. I've also long thought about some kind of hack featuring Magus, and filling in a blank in the adventure of Chrono Trigger seemed like a natural idea. After all, Magus's reaction to finding his home again is character development that shouldn't be omitted from the Chrono experience.

In line with wanting to renew interest, Magus is one of, if not the most charismatic character in the series, even as an "optional" character. It was enchanting imagining what Magus would have thought and done upon finding out that he'd return to his old era and home after thirty years in utter darkness among vindictive peoples. On top of this story, Zeal already exists in the game's code, making development relatively easy with a few expansions and a couple custom maps here and there.

For me and several others, Zeal was the point at which Chrono Trigger became legendary in our minds, and to visit there again with a real purpose and something absolutely anchored to Chrono Trigger canon sounds too good to pass up. There's an obvious Guile reference in there. It's a shame that more people don't know about the Magil character Magus becomes in Radical Dreamers and was set to be in Chrono Cross Magil is completely awesome; he's Magus after the darkness has mostly passed.

It's all reflected in that Serge quote from Radical Dreamers in the hack. Guile, despite not having a backstory, is close in his gentlemanly mannerisms and refined, mysterious charm. This guy is a prince of Zeal, and after thirty years as a prince of darkness, he really fills those regal shoes by looking human again and becoming an interesting, intrepid person.
