Does anyone actually like black licorice

When we eat, we use both the sense of taste and smell to detect flavor. Taste includes sweet, bitter, salty and sour. When we bite into a piece of licorice, we taste glycyrrhizin, a natural sweetener in licorice root, which can taste, to some, like saccharin, the artificial sweetener found in Sweet 'n' Low. With licorice, this sickly sweet lingers, causing some to wrinkle their noses in displeasure.

Glycyrrhizin is also the reason behind the FDA consumer update : it can significantly lower the body's potassium levels, leading to abnormal heart rhythms, elevated blood pressure levels, edema and even congestive heart failure, in extreme cases. Well, at least we know which states to avoid. I mean, North Carolina puts vinegar on its barbecue, so we should have seen that one coming.

Of course, I'm only kidding and I'm sure all ten of you who actually enjoy the flavor of black licorice are typing up the hate email right now, but seriously And those who do, would you rank it your No. I mean, surely you've tasted other foods. Even the Food and Drug Administration kind of agrees with me. It warns that eating too much black licorice can actually harm you.

It continues that black licorice contains something called Glycyrrhizin, which is the root of the problem. So, if just a whiff of anis, fennel, or ouzo turns your stomach, that likely has more to do with a negative memory associated with the smell than it does your genes.

But, whether you love it or hate it, it might still be wise to limit your licorice consumption if you're concerned about heart health. Not unlike its flavor profile, the health implications of eating licorice are polarizing. Licorice root has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties via Healthline.

You might find this amusing then. I am a granny…but I still love the taste of Black Liccorice. I feel that it is more for people my age then for kids. Maybe it will sale faster. Seriously love it. These are year-olds to year-olds. Maybe kids love it and often prefer black licorice because of the influence of their parents.

I have never heard of salted black licorice but I would try it because I love black licorice, snaps, good n plenty, etc….. I found this post because I was in Australia this year and brought home some chocolate covered black licorice.

My mistake was waiting until I came home to taste it. I also love chocolate and thought I might not like it. Now I am searching all over the internet to find chocolate covered black licorice. One site sells it but only in 10 lb.

I would but my husband says no…lol. And why something so historically disagreeable to my palate has recently been garnering my appreciation. A recent post on Candyaddict. Opinions on licorice seem to be as strong as its flavor. You either love licorice, it appears, or you hate it. They sold it there and I loved licorice so I wanted some. Well, my dad told me that it was not going to taste the same as licorice candy. I might not like it. I begged and so he bought it for me. I loved it.

Also, it was a pretty cool thing to have hanging out of your mouth when you were in school. Red Vines over Twizzlers! Twizzlers have the taste and texture of soft plastic! To me, licorice is black; anything else is flavored candy.

More for me. I work at a candy store and I think black licorice is an old person thing. I like the cherry or strawberry taste in red licorice, and not so much of the molasses taste in black licorice.

No one cares. My mom loves black licorice! She cannot stand the red kind. She even likes those nasty black licorice jelly beans!

I actually prefer black licorice over the red. Both my parents are from Germany and I guess I just developed a taste for it. My wife, co-workers, friends….. Whats really good is getting spicy black licorice candy and letting it dissolve in a bottle of vodka……not just good, good for you! As far as black licorice being an old person thing, I really hope not…. I actually really love the taste of licorice. I guess it really just has to deal with personal taste.

It sounds amazing.
